FOx Biosystems is a young Belgian scale-up on a mission to revolutionize the life sciences and pharmacological research market with innovative real-time, label-free analysis products. The basis of our success is a novel fiber-optic-based surface plasmon resonance biosensor that enables our users to generate high-quality biomolecular data accurately, fast, cost-effective, and in a wide area of applications.
We currently employ about 15 people in our offices in Diepenbeek, Belgium and are excited to expand rapidly over the next months as we’re starting up a new R&D facility near Ghent. The facility will become the new home of the biosensor and assay development team.
We are now looking for a Research Associate
Job Description
The research associate participates in the execution of projects in support of the development of new biosensor products and applications, improvement of existing products and applications, and evaluation of new technologies. As an integral part of the biosensor and assay development team, the research associate supports and participates in the constant improvement of the company’s internal processes. You will report to the Director biosensor and assay development and work closely with other research associates and scientists.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design of laboratory experiments.
- Write, review, and maintain experimental plans, protocols, laboratory notebooks, logbooks, and other documentation following good laboratory practices (GLP) and good documentation practices (GDP).
- Conduct experimental work and other laboratory activities effectively, efficiently and safely.
- Perform data analysis and document results according to internal guidance.
- Timely and effectively communicate any deviations from the protocols and procedures, as well as unexpected experimental results or events that could affect experimental work in the projects.
- Follow internal QMS, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, and training on laboratory activities.
- Share ideas for internal processes improvements concerning all R&D activities and participate in improvement implementation tasks.
- Perform quality control of incoming raw materials and in-house prepared reagents and solutions for good quality assurance.
- Participate in developing QC methods.
- Perform routine instrument verification (e.g. balances, pH meter, pipettes), cleaning, and preventative maintenance. Communicate with vendors to schedule instrument service visits.
- Support the lab inventory system of general laboratory suppliers. Monitor quantities of general laboratory and projects specific supplies and arrange the order to prevent shortages. Follow up with vendors and track order status.Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly laboratory consistent with management expectations.
Education and work experience:
- A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or other related fields
- 1-2 years of work experience in a similar capacity is a plus
- Solid laboratory skills in common life science laboratory instrumentation
- Experience in assay development is an asset
- Knowledge of SPR technologies is an asset
- Familiarity with safe laboratory practices
- Experience in ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and/or GLP environment is a plus
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Good level of computer skills and experience in MS Office package (e.g. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
